Zoey
USA, 2002
My name is Anne (Zoey’s mom). I would very much like you to post the photo of Zoey. Being that she is only 3 weeks old right now, I don’t have much to write about her. She is doing really well. She eats great. She weighed 5 lbs. 7 oz. when we left the hospital and now weighs 6 lbs. 5 oz. She had a slow start because she was only on IV fluids for the first few days because she was a little sick.
The geneticist told me that most babies with 5p- Syndrome don’t live past infancy. That was a terrible thing to hear. I can live with the disorder, but to even think that she might die was a horror. Then I found these websites about Cri du Chat. I realized that the severity of the syndrome varies greatly. It was wonderful to see pictures and read stories of all of these other thriving children. I realized that Zoey is a strong little girl and will live a good life. My husband and I have high expectations of her. She has no physical ailments and eats wonderfully. I know that it is too early to tell what difficulties she may have, but we are starting with early intervention.
I’m thankful for these support groups.
